What does Despegar mean?

Practice Version

Despegar:
To take off. Despegar. Despegar means to lift off the ground, like a plane starting its flight.
Example:
Picture a plane glued to the runway until its pilot shouts, “Stop sticking around!” In Spanish, pegar can mean “to stick,” and des- reverses it—so despegar means “to take off,” as if the plane is “un-sticking” itself from the ground. Glue gone, wheels up: ¡Vamos a despegar! (“Let’s take off!”)
